How Perimenopause Affects the Skin

It should be no surprise that I found ANOTHER incredible guest through the social media world. Alison Bladh is a registered nutritional therapist who’s passionate about empowering women to reclaim their health through realistic evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle modifications. Today we’re talking skin health and how perimenopause affects the skin. A native of the UK living in Sweden, Alison is not only a wealth of knowledge on the topic but I could listen to her accent all day!

Growing up on a farm in the South of England, Alison was surrounded by nature from a young age. Her love for food came from the farm where they grew their own fruits and vegetables, with a mom who also happened to be a chef! These childhood experiences were the starting point for Alison’s love of healthy eating habits.

Her experience with acne as a teenager launched her into a career as an aesthetician, working specifically with middle-aged women suffering from skin problems. As women go through perimenopause and skin changes in their 40’s and 50’s it can be extremely stressful. She worked with women’s skin for many years before training as a nutritional therapist. Nutrition plays a huge part in skin care and adding this to her work has been so beneficial.

In this episode Alison shares a few tips you can try if you start noticing how perimenopause affects your skin. We also cover the affects alcohol has on the skin, sugar sag, and what to do about those pesky chin hairs that start popping up!

Be sure to check out Alison’s free ebook about skincare during menopause called “Revive your menopausal skin and get back your glow”. It has a meal plan, shopping list and recipes.

About the Host

I too, struggled in my late 40s when I hit peri-menopause! I was experiencing all those not-so-fun physical changes in my body, as well as mental and emotional fatigue. What worked for me before was not working anymore.

And the mainstream wellness advice I was following was not for women my age but for women years younger. I also realized very quickly that there is no one formula that works for all women. We are all different and need a customized approach. This aha moment was the first step to my transformation…
