A Simple Elegant Holiday Mantle – Do It Yourself

Have you started decorating for the Holidays?  Last week I got a jump start on decorating.  My friends from Collected For The Home came over to help create a simple elegant holiday mantle with some new items and some of the items I have collected over the years.

DYI Holiday Mantle

I have had several years to collect a lot of Holiday decorations.  Each year I like to add something new but when I do, that means something has to go. Getting rid of items does not have to be painful. There is probably someone else that would love to have the items that don’t work for you anymore.  In fact, I know someone who would love those items.

What do you do with your “old” Christmas decorations?

My husband and I got married a little over 5 years ago so we are still in the process of redecorating.  We have been donating our furniture that we are replacing to the Community Furniture Bank.  A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take a tour of the facility.  I was so impressed and happy that we have been helping this organization.

What sets this organization apart from others is the way they have displayed everything.  It looks like a department store. It serves people who have left a homeless shelter or maybe had a fire and they do not have any resources to get sheets, furniture, and household items.  The way it is set up the individuals can come and choose their furnishings with dignity instead of having to dig through boxes.  The donated sheets are all bundled together as a set and the furniture and rugs are set up in vignettes.

They even had a place for Christmas Decorations so that they would not miss out on decorating for Christmas.  So remember as you go through your decorations this year and replace things consider donating the items you don’t use anymore to the Community Furniture Bank. They also take furniture, rugs, sheets, towels, and kitchen items.

Well, I did not do this mantle myself but after seeing it done, I know I could do it and so could you. Check out the video here:
