Are you one of those people who doesn’t have time for stretching? You work out, run, play tennis but don’t have time for the stretch afterward. I use to be that person too.
Before I started teaching Pure Barre I was a runner. After I would run, I would never take the time to stretch because I was in a hurry to get somewhere else. I just felt like it really wasn’t necessary. After teaching Pure Barre and learning more about the body, I know now that stretching is almost as important as the workout.
Importance of Stretching
Stretching is important to keep the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. The more flexible you are, the better you maintain your range of motion in your joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscle for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
It is best to stretch after your body is warmed up. This is a great way to cool down after your workout. Taking your time to be mindful during your stretch. This helps not only your body but your mind as well. We all seem to be in a hurry to get to our next stop. Take 5 to 10 minutes after your workout, clear your mind, and stretch those muscles that you worked so hard. You could also consider this as self-care. Read here why self-care is important.
Here is an article on some great stretches you can do after your workout. If you don’t have time for a full workout warm up your body for 10 minutes with a quick walk before performing these stretches.
Activewear
I spend at least 50% of my time in activewear. When I was buying activewear for my studio, I found Vimmia. Vimmia has some of the most fashionable activewear. My requirements for activewear are it must fit well, absorb sweat, and look good. This is one of my favorite outfits that I own. The vest is a great piece that I can wear with so many things. You can’t really see the shirt underneath the vest but it is another versatile piece that I can wear with other things.
Here are some of my favorites from Vimmia:
