Did I get your attention? We all want to know the best “diet” for 2021 for women over 40. Because we need to figure out how to lose that weight we put on during the holidays and this crazy year of 2020! We have got to get it under control.
The Truth about Diets for Women Over 40
Diets only work for the short term. If you are like me you have tried your fair share of diets. Sometimes that worked and I lost the weight however, it worked because I had a plan. When we go “off” the plan it can creep back on.
Also, what use to work for us in our 20’s, 30’s, and even into our early 40’s no longer work for us now. And sometimes it just seems that our bodies have stopped losing weight and we don’t know what to do anymore. So how do we do it?
Do we just give up and accept it?
I remember right after I hit my 50’s and I started putting on extra weight around my belly. My thoughts were “where did this come from?” I use to put weight on in my hips and legs and now it is going to my belly.
I felt like someone had blown up an inner tube around my waist. To say I did not feel like myself, was an understatement.
Wondering if this was just the way it was going to be as I got older, I started trying different “lifestyles” like Keto, intermittent fasting, carb cycling, paleo. Some of those worked and some were even sustainable (not Keto). The problem can be that they can still feel restrictive longterm.
We are all so different. What works for one person may not work for another. So there is no “best diet for 2021 for women over 40”. It is more important to find out what works for our own bodies and lifestyles. Then we still have to be adaptable and flexible.
Where do you start on finding what “diet” works for you?
So let’s first start with ditching the term “diet.” There is no one diet plan for women over 40. Instead, let’s talk about nourishing our bodies so that we feel our best. I am sure we all agree that feeling our best is what we all really want.
Years ago I heard someone say…”You are what you eat.” That really stuck with me. I decided then I did not want to be a greasy potato chip.
I know I feel so much better when I eat “real” food. Real food is whole food, if it comes from the ground or has a mother. Less processed food is best.
Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Does it give you energy or does it make you feel sluggish?
Start small. Trade out your dessert at night for a small piece of dark chocolate or small bowl of fruit. Celebrate how good you feel physically and mentally. Or maybe try trading out your sandwich for lunch with a big salad loaded with leafy greens, a lean protein and your favorite veggies.
It doesn’t have to be an “all or nothing” approach. Making small consistent changes that help you feel your best is YOUR perfect diet for 2021.
