3 Tips When You Are Feeling Stuck and Unmotivated

Sometimes we just start feeling stuck and unmotivated to do what we KNOW we need to do. We have all been there.  You would think as we hit our middle years we would finally figure out a way around this but it still happens.  Sometimes I think it is because there is too much information.  We don’t know where to start.

In my podcast, Getting Back On Track When I Have Been Derailed, I share how I motivate myself and get unstuck.

3 Tips When You Are Feeling Stuck and Unmotivated

  1.  Find a book, a person, or a quote that inspires you. When we are inspired by someone or a book that we read it can be the first step to becoming unstuck and unmotivated.
  2. Start small.  Most of the time we are thinking too big.  We think we have to do it all.  However when we break it down into small actionable steps and just focus on the first step we can start. From there we can slowly add on. But be sure to do it slowly.
  3. Celebrate when you start. We only change and move forward when we feel good not when we feel bad. It is important to recognize yourself for taking the first step.  Be proud of yourself.

Sometimes when we find ourselves stuck we tend to compare ourselves with everyone else.  But maybe we are comparing ourselves to the wrong people.

I found myself scrolling through social media the other day and realizing I was following women in their 20’s and 30’s.  These were women that I had very little in common with but for some reason I started comparing my own health journey with theirs.

Let’s face it we should not compare ourselves with anyone but especially people that are not even close to our own age. Things change as we get older. Once we become empty-nesters our lives are different and what is important to us changes.

Can we learn from the younger generation? Of course, but be sure you understand what you are learning from them. Find your people that you can relate to; they will be the ones to inspire you and motivate you to make the changes that you KNOW you need to make to feel your best.

Still feeling stuck and unmotivated?

One more thing you can do when you feel stuck and unmotivated is to do a good deed for someone else. Evidence has shown that doing good deeds for others improves our mental well-being. It can reduce stress as well as improve our mood, self esteem and happiness.

What good deed will you do today?
