Can a Morning Routine Transform Your Life?

According to the book, “Miracle Morning”, creating your “miracle morning” can transform your life. But can a morning routine really, transform your life?

I found the book, “The Miracle Morning”,  over 2 years ago and I have read through it a couple of times.  I am a big believer that a morning routine can transform your life.

Hal Elrod hit rock bottom so he began his quest for the fastest way to take his personal development to the next level. He researched the daily practices of the world’s most successful people.  He actually found six! After discovering these six he attempted to determine which one or two would accelerate his success the fastest. Then he wondered, what if I did ALL of them?

After discovering, implementing, and mastering those practices, Hal was able to transform his life.  And not just him, but many others that adopted these six practices, that became known as the Life S.A.V.E.R.S..

Each letter in S.A.V.E.R.S. represent one of the best practices of the most successful people. It stands for Silence, Affirmation, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing (Journaling).

But you may ask, “Why Mornings?”  You have heard the saying, “The early bird gets the worm.” Well it is true, the early bird gets so much more than just the worm.

Why Mornings Matter So Much

  • You will be more proactive. You will be able to anticipate future problems, needs, or changes and you will be able to plan ahead.
  • You will start planning.  Planning ahead always sets us up for success.
  • You will have more energy. Part of your new morning routine will include exercise.  Even if this is 5 minutes it will set a positive tone for your day and release dopamine which can improve your mood.
  • You will gain attitude advantages. Research has shown that morning people tend to be more persistent and resistant to fatigue, frustration and difficulties. That means lower levels of anxiety and lower rates of depression, higher life satisfaction.

I am naturally a morning person, but in the book Hal shares with you how you can become a morning person. I loved the idea of  a “miracle morning” so I couldn’t wait to put all of these things into practice.

Check out this podcast, “Finding Your Routine to Become More Productive”,  with my client, Angela.

The first time I read the book I was trying to spend an hour on my morning routine, but I was having a hard time making it work for my life. Looking back I realize that I was trying to do too much all at once. We change by making it manageable, attainable, and sustainable.

Sustainable shifts happen if it is doable for the longterm. Figuring out a way that I could do this for the longterm was the key to my success in creating my morning routine.

I had to let go of my “perfect ” morning routine and decide what I could do most days. The good news is sometimes I can have my “perfect” morning routine.

My “Perfect” Morning Routine

6:00 a.m. – Wake up, brush my teeth, put on my workout clothes.

6:05 a.m. – Make my coffee. As my coffee is brewing drink a glass of water with lemon.

6:10 a.m. – Sit in my den with the fire on and read my devotional, pray, write in my journal, and plan out my day.

6:45 a.m. – State my affirmations and close my eyes and visualize my life and dreams.

7:00 a.m. – Drink another glass of water and workout

7:30 a.m.- Mediation

7:45 a.m. – Shower

8:30 a.m. – Start my work day

What I do most days for my morning routine.

6:15 a.m. – Wake up, lay in bed, talk to my husband about the day.

6:30 a.m. – Get up, throw on my clothes, let the dogs out, drink water, make coffee.

6:45 a.m. – Read a bit of a book or devotional, pray.

7:00 a.m. – Visit with my husband before he leaves for work.

7:15 a.m. – Exercise

7:45 a.m. – Head to my office write in my journal.

8:00 a.m. – Start work

At some point I will take a break from work and brush my teeth, wash my face, but if I am working from home I usually don’t take a shower until right before I go to bed.

What I have learned is that I am far more productive in my day when I start my day like this. Not only am I more productive but my day goes so much better.  When I feel productive I feel more successful.  If I feel more successful I can accomplish more and I have more confidence in myself. It is a domino affect.

Are you a morning person? Do you want to accomplish more in your day? Try creating a morning routine that can transform your life. As you do this remember to take small steps. And one of the most important parts of making it stick is to celebrate your step n0 matter how small.

We change by feeling good not by feeling bad!
