Last spring I changed up my aging gracefully skincare routine with a clean anti-aging skincare routine. I decided to change things up as I have become more aware of the products I put on my body matter as much (if not more) as what I put in my body. Our skin is our largest organ.
I was very hesitant to change things up because what I was using was working so well. I even did a post on My Skincare Routine – Morning and Night. However, I knew it was necessary to make sure I was taking care of myself the best way I could.
First Switch In My Clean Skincare Routine
The first thing I changed was my deodorant. My friend Cathy aka The Middlepage was the first one to tell me I should switch it up to a natural product. Cathy was very adamant about it since she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer over 6 years ago. But I tried one and I didn’t really like it so I went back to the one that I had been using for years.
When my daughter-in-law was pregnant, I watched how she started switching all of her products to cleaner brands and she told me about the Think Dirty App. We talked about deodorant and she gave me a couple to try. Again, I didn’t love those but now I am trying a new one so I will keep you posted. Sometimes it takes me a while to come around but the more you learn about all of the chemicals in skincare and all products the more important it becomes.
Second Switch In My Clean Skincare Routine
The second thing I switched was my skincare. I had heard of Beautycounter but the last thing I wanted to do was “sell” something. But there was no denying with all of the press I needed to try it. As I said before I was a little hesitant because what I was using was working and I feel like skincare is crucial to aging gracefully.
Thankfully Beautycounter has many skincare regimens to use depending on your skin type. The Countertime Collection is what I use every morning and night. I also use the Facial Oils most mornings especially since it has gotten cold and my skin is dryer. My favorite oil is the No.2 Plumping Facial Oil. One more item that I use 2-3 times at night is the Overnight Resurfacing Peel.
When I am traveling I love the Make-up Remover Wipes. It makes it so easy to remove my makeup and then in the morning I just use one instead of washing my face.
Third Switch In My Clean Skincare Routine
The third thing I switched was my make-up. So I am not a make-up junkie like a lot of my friends. I think less is better, especially as I age. So that is why I fell in love with the Flawless in Five. I use this every day. With Flawless in Five, you get to chose between Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation or Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer. I ended up getting both. I wear Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer No. 2 almost every day and I wear Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation in Sand if I want more coverage for a photo shoot or an event.
After I put on either my Dew Skin or Tinted Moisturizer I use the Touch-up Skin Concealer Pen in Medium 1. Next, I use the brow gel in medium to tame my eyebrows. I wear the Satin Powder Blush in Nectar and last step the Lip Gloss in Bare Shimmer. I also love the Holiday Limited Edition Mini-Lip Gloss Vault. I am a lip-gloss addict so I have tried many lip glosses. My absolute favorite is City Lips lip gloss in Nude York. (You can find this at Gus Mayer.) I think it is mostly clean.
The Flawless in Five set also comes with your choice of Volumizing Mascara or Lengthening Mascara. I chose the Lengthening Mascara. To be honest the mascara is not my favorite. I do use it sometimes but I really go back and forth between Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara (you can find this at Gus Mayer) and Westman Atelier Eye Love You Mascara.
Other Clean Products I Use
The other products I use if I am going out is the Classic Velvet Eye Shadow Pallet and the Chantecaille Luster Glide Silk Infused Eye Liner. To add a bit more color to my lips I use Color Intense Lipstick in Brunch or the Sheer Lipstick in Twig with Lip Gloss in Opal-Moonstone on top.
Not all of my products are completely clean yet. I am working toward that. Remember you don’t have to switch everything at once. My motto is progress over perfection. I love Maya Angelou, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”
