Tired of feeling tired?
Has menopause fatigue come for you? It’s a common symptom that feels very disruptive to life. Interrupted sleep due to nightly hot flashes turns your day upside down; it begins to feel like a never-ending cycle of little sleep at night and exhaustion throughout the day. If you’re tired of feeling tired, there’s hope. There are ways to break that cycle and regain more energy in menopause through lifestyle changes.
Regain energy in menopause through food
The food you eat has a direct impact on how you feel – for better or worse. If you want to have more energy, you need to make sure you’re fueling your body well.
A few things to think about when it comes to increasing energy through the foods you’re eating.
-
- Protein forms the foundation for the majority of the muscle and tissue in your body. It takes more energy to digest protein leaving you satisfied longer and keeping your energy levels up! Healthy ways to get your protein in are through chicken, turkey, beans and legumes, nuts, and seeds.
-
- Does the idea of eating carbs scare you? If so, it’s time to rethink our relationship with them. Complex Carbohydrates are your body’s favorite source of energy. Because of their fiber and protein content, complex carbs take more time for your body to digest. Examples of complex carbs are brown rice, oats, millet, quinoa, and even some starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash. What we’re not talking about is refined carbs like white bread, cakes, pasta, etc.
-
- Make sure you’re eating healthy fats as your body uses fat to give you energy. When going for fats, you want to look for unsaturated fats which are the healthy type like avocados, nuts and seeds, salmon, etc.
- Limit your processed food consumption. Eating foods in their natural form is always best for your body. If there are processed foods you’re eating, think about ways you can swap that out for more whole foods.
