When I travel I only want to take what is essential and leave the rest at home. I like to travel as light as possible. After many trips later I have some guidelines on packing. I touched on this in an earlier post My Girlfriend Getaway to New York City.
Packing Smart
The first thing to do is figure out what colors you want to wear and stick with a basic color pallet. Basic colors could include, black, white, grey, and khaki (beige). From there you could add one or two pop colors. For this spring lavender and pink would be great colors.
The second thing to do is decide how many days and nights and what you will be doing. From there you can decide on your outfits. Most of the time, I take 2-3 pairs of pants/jeans. Then I will take 4-5 tops that I can interchange with the pants. Maybe 1-2 dresses, 2 workout outfits, 1 jacket and 3 pairs of shoes.
Go ahead and try on your outfits before you pack them. This way you can make sure everything fits and feels good. If you don’t feel good in the outfit, do not pack it. Only pack what you love and feel comfortable wearing.
I like to add a couple of tops if I have room. This gives me options if I change my mind.
Packing Shoes
Packing the right shoes is one of the most important items that you will pack. It all starts with buying the right shoes.
If the shoes are not comfortable or don’t fit correctly do not buy them. I can’t stress this enough. What is the point of ruining your feet to look good? There are so many good options for comfortable and great looking shoes.
I love sneakers and they are on trend so take advantage and buy at least one pair of sneakers that you love and are comfortable. Golden Goose is one of my favorites but they can be quite pricey. A more affordable alternative is Steve Madden.
Try to only pack 3-4 pairs of shoes. Shoes can take up a lot of room in your suitcase. This is not the time to wear a different pair of shoes with each outfit.
DO NOT bring a brand new pair of shoes without breaking them in first and wearing them around. Even if they seem like they will be comfortable. I have learned this the hard way.
