I believe there are 10 essential wardrobe basics. We all have different budgets and different ways we spend money so I am linking different price points so you can still get the look and stay in your budget.
Crisp White Shirt – I love a crisp white shirt. You can dress it up or dress it down. I have several in my closet, probably too many if I tell the truth. You can get away with spending a little less on this item, however, it will probably just have to be replaced more often.
Dark Blue Jeans – I am always in search of a great pair of blue jeans. My favorite denim is Mother by far on fit and comfort. Gus Mayer has a great selection. Jeans can come in a variety of different price ranges. I have linked some of my favorites here.
Black Belt – I think a belt ties it all together and if you can only have one color I would go with black. Check out this post. However, it would be good to have a brown one as well. You don’t have to spend a fortune here to get the look.
Trench Coat – I love a great trench coat and this year I did invest in a special one. Sometimes I believe there are times to invest in quality pieces. You can read my post here.
Little Black Dress – If you are only going to pick one little black dress stick with a basic one so you can change it up with accessories.
Classic Handbag – If you can, splurge here but make sure it is a classic one.
Black Pants – Honestly, I have more than one black pant. If you are going to have only one, I would buy a slimmer cut.
Comfortable Flat – I will only buy comfortable shoes. At age 53, I have no reason to spend my time in uncomfortable shoes, I did that in my 20’s. A flat is a must-have.
Comfortable Pump – A good basic pump can be worn with everything from a dress to jeans.
Cardigan and/or a Blazer– A cardigan and blazer are like a belt to me, it pulls it all together and finishes your outfit off. Check out this post.
